Winemaker NotesPol Roger, one of a few luxury Champagne firms still family-owned, was established in Epernay in 1849. Pol Roger owns 200 acres of vineyards, which provide about 45% of their needs. Pol Roger's cellars extend over four miles of winding chalk passageways on two levels. The second or deeper cellar maintains a constant 9.5 C (50 F), one degree lower than the first level and most others in the region. This lower temperature slows the second fermentation, encouraging a finer mousse or bubbles. Pol Roger Champagne also spends two to three times the allowable minimum in the cellar before disgorgement, or about three years for the non-vintage and up to seven for the luxury cuvées. The long, slow maturation contributes greatly to the complex aromas, which distinguish these superb Champagnes.The Brut Non Vintage blend is traditionally composed from about 30 to 35 still base wines, drawn from different vineyard sites, grape varieties and vintage years. It usually contains wines of at least two vintages, often three or four. Reserve wines compose between 20-30% of the traditional blend. 98 Jeb Dunnuck Review Date: 11/2023 Originally a part of the legendary Piper-Heidsieck Champagne house, Rare is moving their Champagne Millésime to a new brand and want it to stand alone. (Think Delamotte and Salon.) The 13th vintage for this cuvée, the 2013 Champagne Millésime is a blend is 70% Chardonnay with the rest Pinot Noir, with the majority of the blend coming from the Montagne de Reims Grand Cru and Premier Cru. A bright yellow hue, its aromatics are exquisite and well-balanced, with fresh notes of key lime, candied apple, fresh croissant dough, fresh pineapple, and honeysuckle. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the palate with a rounded and supple texture and a pillowy mousse. It’s long on the palate and has a silky personality as well as a long, pristine finish. It has fantastic balance of decadence and freshness, and I could drink this all day. It’s going to have a long drinking window.

Winemaker Notes Schramsberg Brut Rosé is fruitful, complex and dry, making it both versatile with food and delicious by itself as an apéritif. The character of the wine is most strongly influenced by bright, flavorful Pinot Noir grown along California's North coast from southern Mendocino County to northern Marin County. Winemaker Notes Cristal is Louis Roederer’s flagship cuvée. It was created in 1876 and is composed of Grand Crus from the Montagne de Reims, the Marne Valley, and the Côte des Blancs. Cristal 2008 was bottle-aged for 8 years before being left to rest for at least 8 months after disgorging in order to attain perfect maturity. Amber hue with green and orange tints. Fine, even and lively sparkle. Complex and intense bouquet disclosing candied citrus, yellow fruit, Williams pear, pollen, and toasted almond. The 2012 Dominus is a wild, exotic wine. Harvest began on October 9 and finished on the 21st, very late by present-day standards. Ripe red cherry, kirsch, cinnamon, rose petal, incense and rose petal soar out of the glass. Deep and vibrant, with terrific freshness, Dominus is very clearly one of the wines of the year. I loved the 2012 from barrel, but found it quite closed after bottling. Now, after all these years, I finally see the realization of the potential suggested in my barrel tastings. Magnificent

Winemaker Notes #9 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2022 As this slowly begins to unwind in the glass it releases gorgeous aromas of blackberries, dark plums and Creme de cassis that are accented by graphite, violets, herbs, sweet spices and mocha which all take shape beautifully. About the Wine In 1987, we made our first vintage of a wine styled after the famous First Growth producers of Bordeaux, crafted with the same uncompromising care as the Grands Vins of those venerable chateaux. Full-bodied, with notes of ripe black fruit and complex aromas of baking spice, it’s ready to drink right out of the gate, but be sure to save a few bottles as it continues to evolve after some time in the cellar.

Organic Cabernet Sauvignon from Maremma Toscana. Prelius Castelprile is the Maremma Toscana Estate of Federica Mascheroni Stianti of Volpaia. The lable represents the fluid, the essence of the ancient alluvial lake Prelius, now know as Maremma Toscana. The lake has slowly disappeared due to the Ombrone's floodings and today the only fluid remaining is the wine tradition of the region.

Winemaker Notes La Chevaliere Chardonnay is a clear pale straw color. Strong citrusy aromas on the nose, with yellow-fruit richness. Bright flavors of ripe fruit; good balance and aromatic finish. La Chevaliere, or "the knight's lady," is a reference to "Mas La Chevaliere" which is literally the "farmhouse of the knight's lady," the Laroche winery in southern France where this wine is produced.

The 2021 Chadonnay hails from Napa’s southernmost AVAs, where wind and fog contribute to much cooler growing conditions. Lemon peel and green apple mingle with sea salt, beeswax, and linden flower. Bosc pear, fines herbes, and cheese rind dance on the textured yet vibrant palate. The wine balances richness, tension, and energy through to the finish in a California nouveau style.

If you're a lover of big, dark, intense Pinot Noir, this Mercurey isn't to be missed! The Côte Chalonnaise village of Mercurey is home to a cadre of superb winegrowers making hearty, gutsy Pinot Noir without sacrificing structure or detail, and none of these growers is on a better roll than Gouffier. We often use wines such as this to "convert" aficionados of California Pinot Noir, as there's plenty of rich, spiced cherry intensity and a judicious kiss of oak. Organic.

Winemaker Notes Fine lace and silk are the words most often associated with this wine. Bright, intense colour and complex aromas evoking violet, black cherry and damp earth. According to the vintages, there are also notes of truffle and game. Refined tannins coat the palate. Good balance between texture and acidity. Long aftertaste, with notes of cherry and candied fruit.

Winemaker Notes Serious minerality, with earthy stone and plum notes. Dusty tannins and a long evolution in the glass that keeps you studying.

The 2021 Morgon Cuvée Corcelette comes from vines averaging 50-years in age, this vineyard suffering less reduction in volume than others due to the sandy soils. It is aged in used barrels for around 9 months. It has a quite compelling and complex bouquet, with raspberry and wild strawberry, rose petal and light chalky scents. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, finely chiseled and lending tension. The acidity keeps this taut, focused, and quite minerally towards the leaner-than-usual finish. There's moderate length with fine salinity. Bon vin.

Winemaker Notes Foillard's Morgon Eponym comes from the Charmes lieu-dit, one of the highest parcels in the appellation. In contrast to the grandiose, deeply structured Côte du Py and silky-smooth Corcelette, this cuvée features a bit more crunch with lots of bright acidity and a leaner, more mineral profile. It nonetheless shares the satin texture of all Foillard Morgons, and should age similarly well for those willing and able to wait.

Winemaker Notes An outstanding wine. Pale yellow color. Complex floral nose of white lilac and white rose. Once open, fruity aromas come to the fore, evolving towards grilled hazelnut and almond. When the wine is more mature, the nose is surprisingly strong and fifteen minutes of aeration produce wonderful notes of white truffle, citron, honey and nutmeg, elegantly meshed together. Very lively on the palate. Its rich texture is in evidence, but also its structure and minerality. It is round, but never heavy. Harmonious fullness in the aftertaste".

Winemaker Notes An exceptional wine. Beautiful, deep-red ruby color, with the bright sheen of great Burgundies. Intense and fresh nose for the young wines. Primary notes of red fruit dominate, such as Morello cherry (“griotte”, or wild cherry), raspberry, blackberry. There are hints of complexity with smoky flavors evolving towards licorice. When the wine is maturing, aromas of pepper, tobacco, humus and undergrowth appear. When drinking the wine, the first impression is always clear-cut and the texture fleshy. The body is firm without being rough, well meshed without being heavy. There is great freshness in the younger wines. With age, the wine gets rounder. It takes on “gras” (velvety texture) and a more precise architecture, supported by silky tannins. It is lively and refined at the same time. There remains a final and most pleasing sensation of harmony, fullness and delicate tannins, as the wine lingers on the palate.

The 2020 La Grande Rue is similar to the bottle tasted at the Grands Jours; ample red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit, fine minerality, quite "air" considering the growing season. The palate is medium bodied with supple tannins, fine depth, quite strict on the finish where one find a pinch of sour cherry and brown spices. Just needs a little more sustain on the aftertaste.

A slightly more elegant nose expresses aromas of honeysuckle, passion fruit, Asian style tea and cool essence of poached pear wisps. The caressing and highly seductive medium-bodied flavors possess a wonderfully sophisticated mouthfeel while delivering absolutely superb length on the balanced finale that has that element of 'presence'. Winemaker Notes Healthy, crunchy and well-ripened grapes produced musts that are not excessively rich in structure, considering what was expected from this vintage. They are rather characterized by a good acidity which supports the higher degree of alcohol of this vintage. The soft and silky tannins were already present in the musts and are the underlying characteristic of Guidalberto 2017.
